  The School of Agriculture, Policy and Development are world leaders in teaching and research, maintaining a reputation developed since the 1800' s. Our focus is to provide the individuals and knowledge to address the major challenges and opportunities in our sector for the 21st century. We address food production, the sustainability of agro-ecosystems, food security, adaptation and mitigation to climate change, food chains and health, animal welfare and behaviour, poverty alleviation, international development, and consumer behaviour and choice.

  The School comprises about 160 staff, and is located in a state of the art building on the Whiteknights campus which houses our Divisions of Agri-Environment; Crop Production; Agri-Food Economics and Social Sciences; and Animal, Dairy and Food Chain Sciences; and the Graduate Institute of International Development and Applied Economics (GIIDAE). Many of our specialist research centres are also located here or on our farms nearby. The School is also a significant contributor to the University-wide centres for Food Security, Climate Change, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research, and Poverty, Exclusion and Access. In addition, our links with other institutions, many of them overseas, allow research to be conducted in temperate, Mediterranean, and tropical climates in more than 50 countries by research students, university staff and their cooperating and collaborating counterparts.

  In the REF 2013 98% of Reading' s research in this area was internationally recognised, 81% being rated as internationally excellent and 45% as world-leading. The University of Reading submission to the Agriculture, Food and Veterinary Science panel was ranked 4th out of 30 submissions on" Research Power" . In 2014 in the QS World Subject Rankings Reading was ranked 11th for Agriculture and Forestry research and is repeatedly ranked as the UK' s top university for impact in Agricultural Sciences research (ISI Web of Knowledge, Essential Science Indicators).

  We offer a world-class learning experience in which research informs our teaching, providing students with a state of the art education. In the last National Student Survey our average level of overall student satisfaction was 92%.

  We offer a wide range of both undergraduate and postgraduate taught degree programmes as well as Higher Degrees by Research. We have a cosmopolitan student body of over 500 students (60% on BSc programmes, 20% MSc, and 20% PhD), typically from over 40 countries. Our Undergraduate, taught postgraduate and postgraduate research degrees have an international reputation for high quality by employers and academia.
